Bobcat Fever Grips Frisco – Montana State University fans turned Frisco, Texas, into a sea of blue and gold on Sunday, January 5, 2025. An estimated 5,000 Bobcat faithful packed the Ford Center at The Star for the “Sunday Funday” celebration, setting the stage for the FCS national championship showdown against North Dakota State.
Undefeated Season Fuels Fan Frenzy
The electric atmosphere at the rally reflected Montana State’s perfect 15-0 record this season. Head coach Brent Vigen addressed the crowd, his words met with thunderous cheers. “There’s no doubt in my mind we have the best fans in the country,” Vigen declared. “And we have the best team in the country, and we’re going to prove that tomorrow night.”
University president Waded Cruzado and athletic director Leon Costello also took the stage, praising the team’s accomplishments and the unwavering support of Bobcat Nation.”
To walk in and see the energy, the people, I think everybody’s here because of the season we had,” Costello told MTN Sports. “The momentum has just carried us to this point, and it’s cool to see everybody make the trip down to Texas to support us.”
Legends of the Past Meet Stars of Today
The event brought together Bobcat greats from various eras. Jim Kalafat, a former record-breaking linebacker, marveled at the current team’s achievements. “If you’re 15-0, it doesn’t matter if you play peewee football, high school, college, you’ve done one hell of a job,” Kalafat said.
Tim Nixon, co-captain of the 1976 national championship team, drew parallels between his squad and the current roster. “The ’76 team was unique in its own way because there were no superstars. We were definitely a team that came together. We wanted to win,” Nixon recalled. “This team feels the same.”

As the Bobcats prepare to face North Dakota State for the national title, the “Sunday Funday” celebration served as a powerful reminder of the deep connection between the team and its fans. With Bobcat pride at an all-time high, Montana State looks to add a fourth national championship to its storied history.
