Mel Gibson’s Malibu Mansion Burns Down During Joe Rogan Podcast – Oscar-winning actor Mel Gibson saw his $14.5 million Malibu mansion go up in flames while filming an episode of comedian Joe Rogan’s popular podcast in Austin, Texas, he said in an interview with Elizabeth Vargas of NewsNation Monday.
A house was lost. The family got out.
The former occupant of the Malibu property for 15 years is Gibson, who recalls one surreal experience-to be talking about apocalyptic scenarios with Rogan when his world is literally going up in flames. “I was kind of ill at ease while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire,” Gibson revealed. “I thought, ‘I wonder if my place is still there.’ But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.”
His girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, and their little son had succeeded in getting out of the house in time before the flames hit their house. Although it was a personal loss of monumental proportions, Gibson remained philosophical about it, citing that material things can be replaced. “It’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” he confessed. “But these are only things, and the good news is that those in my family, and those I love, are all well and we’re all happy, healthy, and out of harm’s way.”
To everyone’s surprise, Gibson shared that the family’s chickens miraculously survived the inferno. “They were perfectly fine,” he marveled. “We gave them some food and water, and they seemed happy, even laying eggs.”
It is one of the cases in the larger wildfire crisis that has taken Los Angeles already with a record loss of life and destruction of thousands of structures. In such a context, the Gibson case is a grim reminder of how unpredictable and destructive these natural calamities can become when the city is facing the worst wildfires in its history.
As Los Angeles continues to fight the fires, stories like Gibson’s highlight the human cost of such catastrophic events. While homes and possessions can be rebuilt and replaced, the emotional toll of such losses cannot be understated. In the face of adversity, Gibson’s resilience and gratitude for his family’s safety offer a glimmer of hope amidst the devastation.
